Proper Maintenance of Sewer Utilities
Residential, commercial and industrial premises un various activities that require water and removal of wastewater hence water and sewer utilities are very important. Potable water is provided into the industrial, commercial and residential premises through the use of the water utilities to ensure that all activities that require water run continuously with little or no disruption. Sewer utilities, on the other hand, are meant to carry wastewater generated from the commercial, industrial and residential setting away into a commonplace. Water and sewer utilities mostly the pipes carrying the different contents run together in most regions although some sewer utilities run underground. Sewer pipes should be placed below the water pipes to prevent contamination of the potable water in situations where there is a leakage in the sewer pipes.
Waste water which is known as sewage is usually transported in sewer utilities to a place where it is either treated or disposed. The wastewater carried is from all premises that are connected to the sewer system in an area. Sometimes the sewer utilities are made such that they can also carry storm water mostly in town areas where the surfaces are unable to allow the water to infiltrate into the soil. Most areas ensure that there are two separate sewer utilities for carrying sewage water and storm water. carrying the storm water and sewage separately make it easier to treat them as well as dispose them treated water. Waste water one treated in a treatment plant to remove all pollutants is releases into the environment where it can be used in many ways. Sewer and water utility services are run by one company hence user pay for both services as one to the company. The payments made are used for the proper running and maintenance of the sewer utilities.
There are also some area that are not connected to the municipal sewer utilities hence they use the septic tanks. Concrete, plastic or fiberglass are some of the materials that make septic tanks used to collect wastewater. Septic tanks are mainly used in residential areas since the wastewater generated is not a lot. Also, septic tanks can be able to treat the wastewater by the use of microorganism present inside. Use of septic tanks requires that one takes some precautionary measure to ensure that it runs smoothly. These measure ensure that microorganism are no damaged and also the septic tanks such as preventing release of excessive oils and harmful chemicals. Septic tanks should be placed beneath the ground and they should be made in a way that they do not leak r release odors into the environment. Septic tanks are also required to be located at least 5 feet from the house in most areas.
